Deadeye Band

Deadeye Band
Ring, rare (requires attunement)

The deadeye band is an obsidian ring with an eerie, milky sapphire set into the center, shaped like an unblinking eye. Delicate, sinuous strands of copper twist around the band, resembling tendrils or veins that extend from the gemstone. The sapphire’s surface has a faint, cloudy opacity, as though concealing something watchful within its depths. When held up to moonlight, faint reflections give the impression of a round pupil, which seems to follow nearby movement.

While attuned to the deadeye band, its wearer perceives the world with heightened clarity. They become sensitive to subtle shifts in sound, movement, and unnatural disturbances in the environment, gaining a +2 bonus to Perception checks and passive Perception.

As an action, the wearer can lift the band to one eye, aligning their vision through the hole of the ring. For the next minute, through this opening, they can see invisible and incorporeal entities within 60 feet, perceiving them as ghostly, translucent forms. Additionally, while this effect persists, the wearer can use a bonus action to flip the band and peer through its opposite end, allowing them to see directly into the ethereal veil. While the wearer’s vision remains otherwise unchanged, this alternate view blocks line of sight to the physical world. As a subsequent bonus action, the wearer can flip the ring again and return the deadeye band to its prior magical state—and vice versa, as long as the effect lasts.

Once the band is used in this way, the effect cannot be activated again until its wearer finishes a short or long rest while wearing it. During this time, the ring harmlessly absorbs latent life energy from the wearer to replenish its power.
