Act 3 E01: The Margrave's Plight

Episode Introduction

One year has passed since the Battle of Cindervaeld. The Coven of Zul was crushed, and its masters were defeated, but the cult's dark influence lingers like a fiendish presence on the corners of the mind. The Core of Embers, the void core that contains the vast powers of Herald R'Xahl, remains in the possession of the Mortal Guardians. Efforts to destroy or banish the artifact have failed, and until such a solution can be divined, it lies deep in a secured storage chamber within a fortress in Wintervaeld.

Now, whispers of the coven's resurgence drift like rumors on the wind, and the newly established Mortal Guardians of Saregeza have called for help. Something dark and perilous hides in the deserts, and an eerie, tenebrous voice calls out… inviting the guild to seek it in the shadows.

Episode Recap

Our brave Mortal Guardians set out from the majestic Saregezan city of Aryamza in search of an ancient temple where they sought to meet an agent claiming to possess valuable insight into the would-be demigod, Herald R’Xahl. Though the journey through the desert was fraught with unexpected enemies and dangerous creatures, the venture into the temple itself proved to be far more treacherous. Within its forgotten confines, they discovered that new adversaries from the noble Saregezan imperial House of Ghasrali also sought their prospective associate, and by all appearances, its operatives were allied with none other than the Coven of Zul.

After defeating these agents, the heroes pushed forward into the deepest sanctum of the old temple: a dungeon that once held powerful evil creatures of old. Hiding in that dark place they found an entity with whom they were unexpectedly acquainted: Margrave Zr’Lorh, the undead uulthyr—and an ancient nemesis of Herald R’Xahl—who had offered her ghostly assistance during the Battle of Cindervaeld, allowing the heroes to survive and navigate the maze of otherworldly horrors in the herald’s Dread Obelisk. In the days ahead, when the herald’s vile and destructive plans seek to consume the mortal world, the Margrave’s assistance my well turn the tide and allow our heroes to prevail.
